Hand Carved Mother Of Pearl Antique Pins
A few of my hand carved antique Mother of Pearl pins........
Over the years I have discovered that these beautiful and intricately carved pins have a long history that reaches back across time. Many of them have been carved in Bethlehem. Where since the time of the crusades artisans have been carving mother of pearl for the tourist trade. Yep...Even hundreds of years ago tourists bought souvenirs. During WWll from what I have been told the 5 point star was somehow tied into women who's son's served in the military. But that I have never seen in print. If you you happen to come across a pin or pendant and you are unsure about it's age. Flip it over and look at the clasp. Made of brass or silver with a C clasp (that is just a piece of metal bent over in the shape of a C so the bar can hook into it) A newer pin will have a modern clasp that has been glued on. The older ones have been drilled into the shell..And the pin will have an old patina. You may also see the name Bethlehem stamped into the metal or carved the shell. If you find one or have one of your own you know what a delightful treasure they are ...Glowing with a a life all there own. I for one can't seem to stop collecting them and even though I have about 85 pieces I am always finding one that I just can't live without. Thanks to Jill and Lauren my fellow Junkin Gypsies I discovered a real beauty yesterday...Sigh. My fingers are crossed it will still be in that antique store case next week.

A Few Of My Favorite Things From Christmas
Christmas was pretty darn nice this year...A slightly smaller gathering than usual at my parents home. Some
of the family is out of state, some out of country. Maybe next year we can all
come together again. But..be that as it was. It was wonderful being
with my parents, sister, Aunts and Uncle..cousins.. The Picture above is of
three things I recieved as gifts this year and I just had to share with you.
The Book is from my parents...(really my dad) who is 79 and my original
estate sale...garage sale...antique teacher. He took me and my sister with
him saleing...lol. We both learned very fast what we liked to c ollect. This
beautiful book published in 1958 is about African Sculpture. It just
happens to be a discard from the exact same Jr. High School my sister
and I attended. He did not even realize it when he found it at a sale.
The gold filled bracelet is from my parents also. Another garage sale
find over the summer (my parents have such easy daughters...and they
spoil us rotten often with their treasure finds) I don't know what the
stones are...but when I tried it on I just gasped. My dad got the hint...smile.
The beautiful intricate mother of pearl and sterling pin is from my
husband...I had pointed it out to him earlier in the year....That man
has great follow through. Anyway...The best part of the last two days
is the extra time spent with family...

Holiday Visits And Christmas Tree Decorating
We got a little bit of a late start getting our Christmas tree this year...but at last on Sunday we made it out to our favorite tree lot and cut our petite Noble Fir. My hubby with a small bit of prodding had it up in no time...and (I laugh at this) after I started putting the lights on myself got into the spirit and finished them for me...This is our ritual every year...and after 23 Christmas's together it never changes. My lights are on...crystal garlands strung and the vintage and antique ornaments are just starting to go on.
My Sister-in-law Jodie has a divine collection of Christmas trees. She starts bringing them out right after Thanksgiving. Every nook and cranny is Christmasized. Tiny lights twinkle...mercury glass glows. Tinsel trees, feather trees, large trees, small trees, glass trees, paper trees....(Oh..and shoe trees) It is a wonderland. These pictures are just a few...I am hoping to take more pictures on our next visit soon (I am also so very lucky we live pretty close together)
Tomorrow is baking day...my husband is home on vacation...so I am going to put him to work as a baking elf.....Sweet dreams everyone

Beautiful Antique Sterling Napkin Ring I Just Listed On Etsy l909
Beautiful antique sterling napkin ring featuring Pinky and Blue Boy. Engraved 1909 and has the initials ELW I think..you may be better at reading the script.
Inside are the hallmarks. It is English I believe and it weighs 37.5 grams. A fantastic and rare find, it is over 100 years old and has some wear...I think it could use a good buffing here and there.

My First Paper Fan Flower Rosette
It is hard for me to believe but I have never made a paper fan flower, or rosette, or what ever these beautiful ornaments are called. I have tried. Oh! I have tried, but never quite got the hang of it. Jill put me in touch with a blog she has been following Artful Afirmations. Terri has made a fantastic video on how to make these. Thank you Terri!! Such a simple looking ornament. But it really does have to be folded right....Now my next task it to line up my papers better. This first ornament was made with vintage violin music, a hand cut chipboard disk (oh I need a 2 1/2 inch punch) and a punch out from a vintage postcard. I am not sure how I am going to use this first one...it may just get a string and be added to the tree. On to a garland for the mantel!!!

I Am So Excited About My New Blog Background And Header
Oh look at the beautiful header Jill is working on for me...I think this is just the start. Our families got together today to watch our University of Oregon Ducks stomp Oregon State Beavers in our civil war game and about 3/4 of the way thru she and I drifted to the computer...A month ago or more she said it was time to give everthing a fresh look...silly me I said...nooooo. Lets wait till after the first of the year. Well....she changed my mind. I just adore the way it is shaping up....hmmm I think I am going to make her a special little treasure box...maybe she will share with you what was inside.

Lady Victoria Has A Secret Vintage Style Charms
Lady Victoria keeps secrets. A tiny key hangs from her charm lariet...Her husband never even notices...A small chest..hidden deep in her closet. When the wind blows cold from the north...She sits by her fire and dreams.
Three beautiful charms..A gemmy amethyst, a tiny key (what secrets does it keep) sparkling crystals...perhaps from a favorite dress...a night to remember.
