New Antique Books For My Library I Have To Share

Yesterday's mail brought
two sweet surprises
a day early.

Antique books!!

Wahooo

I was very fourtunate
recently to be offered
a copy of La Mode
at a pretty resonable
(ha)
Price

It has 18 hand colored plates
Bridal Dresses...Men in formal
attire.
Sigh...
A really lovely antique
She has a bit of an odor
but I think I can fix that.

Next
The small book
sitting on top of the La Mode
in the picture.
When Jannett
told me she had a copy
of Language of Flowers
I was not sure what to expect.
I had kind of rushed over that
in the excitement of the La Mode
But when it came in yesterday
I was flabbergasted (fun word)

This little beauty is from 1836
I think it may be one of the oldest books in my library
to date.

There are 4 hand drawn and painted
plates
The colors are exquisite
the descriptions of the flowers
and trees delightful.

My imagination takes me to
a different time.
A lovely young lady
strolling thru the gardens..or down the lane
small book in hand...Maybe
reading to her sisters
Laughing..Translating
the bouquet her beau has just
brought her...
What memories the old books hold
This one was given as a gift once...
you can see the signatures.
I had to share both of them with you all
today because they are so wonderful.
Have a fantastic day!!!

Seam Bias Flowers The First Attempts

Bias tape flowers
Currently the project on my table is a Victorian cuff type wrist let.
It started out with some beautiful soft peach brocade.
Edged with hand crochet pillow edging.
But...just covering it with crystal beads like the last one really
is not much of a challenge...so.  I thought it was time to learn how to make
some ribbon flowers.
There are some wonderful tutorials on you tube.
But for some reason last night they would not play for me.
As you can see...to the right, my first flowers are very poofy,
but it did not take me long to figure out that was not the look I was shooting for
so...Less tape...bigger stitches...Take your time..
and then you end up with flowers that look more like flowers and not
something so wild looking.
I am going to make a few more...and see if I can get them very tiny.
Then add them to the cuff.
Pink vines to go with the green flowers...
Lots and lots of crystal beads
Perfect project to work on as my son does school projects and we watch the snow that we so seldom get here in Eugene.

Hand Carved Mother Of Pearl Antique Pins

A few of my hand carved antique Mother of Pearl pins........
Over the years I have discovered that these beautiful and intricately carved pins have a long history that reaches back across time.  Many of them have  been carved in Bethlehem.  Where since the time of the crusades artisans have been carving mother of pearl for the tourist trade.  Yep...Even hundreds of years ago tourists bought souvenirs.  During WWll from what I have been told the 5 point star was somehow tied into women who's son's served in the military.  But that I have never seen in print.    If you you happen to come across a pin or pendant and you are unsure about it's age.  Flip it over and look at the clasp.  Made of brass or silver with a C clasp (that is just a piece of metal bent over in the shape of a C so the bar can hook into it)  A newer pin will have a modern clasp that has been glued on. The older ones have been drilled into the shell..And the pin will have an old patina.  You may also see the name Bethlehem stamped into the metal or carved the shell.   If you find one or have one of your own you know what a delightful treasure they are ...Glowing with a a life all there own.  I for one can't seem to stop collecting them and even though I have about 85 pieces I am always finding one that I just can't live without.  Thanks to Jill and Lauren my fellow Junkin Gypsies I discovered a real beauty yesterday...Sigh. My fingers are crossed it will still be in that antique store case next week.

Ok..,Here She Is At Last...My First Czech Glass Button Necklace

This Czech glass button brings to my mind the stunning winter sunsets I sometimes am blessed with seeing out my kitchen window. The summer ones are beautiful too. But a winter sunset..against the storm grey clouds...when the sun tired of giving in to all the northwest rain stands up and says "Here I am" is extra special.

A vintage brass cupid, tiny locket, sweet baby rose, key, and sparkling rhinestone orb complete the vintage feel of this long necklace.
It measures about 30 inches. This is a one of a kind piece. I have only one button of this color and style in my treasure box.
Necklace will come in a beautiful gift box.

I do ship international. Convo me for exact rates
